Why did I start this Podcast?
The idea behind the Podcast is to provide a behind-the-scenes type conversation on how players, coaches, agents, etc. became Overseas Athletes.
I'll speak to them about how the process started, what and who was involved, the details behind how they moved overseas and the lessons theyβve learned.
Over time I want it to be an educational resource for current and future young athletes who want to chase their dreams on a global stage ποΈ
I'm hoping that these interviews will help them along the way. It will also help guide them around important topics such as; agents, visas, contracts, currency management, banking & finance, nutrition, fitness, recovery, overall health, culture, language barriers and sponsorship, along with many other subjects.
β½οΈ ποΈ Episode 3 - Sean Lane
Hello there,
I'm excited to share with you the latest episode of our podcast where I had the pleasure of interviewing Sean, a seasoned football coach currently Technical Director and Head Coach at Aspire Academy in Cleveland. His journey is a testament to the power of networking, resilience, and passion for the game.
π Here's a sneak peek into our conversation:
The Power of Networking: Sean's opportunity at Aspire Academy came through a recommendation from his long-time friend, Troy Bingham. This highlights the importance of building strong relationships in the football industry. It's not just about talking a good game but having the substance and experience to back it up.
Overcoming Challenges: Moving to America and initially lacking a coaching role was tough for Sean. However, he soon found his footing at Spire FC, a part of Aspire Academy. His story is a reminder that challenges are often stepping stones to greater opportunities.
Coaching in Bangladesh: Sean shared his experience coaching in Bangladesh, dealing with cultural differences, and managing unfit players. His time there was both exciting and rewarding, emphasising the importance of respecting local culture and finding ways to work together.
The Bangladesh Experience: Sean's time in Bangladesh was challenging but rewarding. He suggests reaching out to someone with experience in the country if you're considering a similar move.
Visa Situation: Sean also touched on the visa process for players moving from Melbourne to America, with Spire assisting in the process.
I hope you find Sean's journey as interesting as I did. Tune in to the podcast to hear more about his experiences and insights.

Currency Update from SportsFX
π¦πΊ The Australian and New Zealand dollars faced significant challenges this week as risk aversion took hold in the Asian markets. This was influenced by two key factors: strong economic data from the United States, which increased the likelihood of another interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve, and discouraging Chinese trade data that failed to improve market sentiment.
The Australian dollar fell to $0.6369, just slightly above its 10-month low of $0.6358 reached overnight. While it has managed to rebound from this level in the past two trading sessions, there is a risk that if this support level weakens, it could potentially drop to $0.6170, a level last seen in October 2022.
Another contributing factor to the currency's performance was the sustained decline in China's exports and imports for the month of August, indicating the presence of significant economic challenges which is correlated with the Australian dollar due to Australia's substantial economic ties with China.
For professionals working internationally, especially those who closely monitor currency rates, it is essential to consider these intricate dynamics when making financial decisions and assessing potential risks in the market.
