Why did I start this Podcast?

The idea behind the Podcast is to provide a behind-the-scenes type conversation on how players, coaches, agents, etc. became Overseas Athletes.

I'll speak to them about how the process started, what and who was involved, the details behind how they moved overseas and the lessons they’ve learned.

Over time I want it to be an educational resource for current and future young athletes who want to chase their dreams on a global stage 🌎️

I'm hoping that these interviews will help them along the way. It will also help guide them around important topics such as; agents, visas, contracts, currency management, banking & finance, nutrition, fitness, recovery, overall health, culture, language barriers and sponsorship, along with many other subjects.

⚽️ πŸŒοΈ Episode 8 - Patrick Flottmann

Hello there,

I'm thrilled to share with you the latest episode of our podcast, where I had the pleasure of interviewing Patrick, a footballer who has played in multiple countries. His journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, adaptability, and the love of the game. Here are some highlights

Patrick started his football journey in Sydney, moved to Thailand, returned to Sydney, then to Brisbane, India, and now he's in Korea. His journey is a testament to his adaptability and willingness to embrace new experiences.

πŸ‘€ A sneak peek into this week’s episode

The Thai Adventure: Patrick’s decision to play in Thailand's second division was a leap of faith that paid off. He shared the incredible growth and support for football in Thailand, and how it's contributing to the overall growth of the game.

The Cultural Challenges: Patrick emphasised the importance of respecting the culture of the country he's playing in. From Thailand to India, and now Korea, he's learned to navigate cultural differences and build camaraderie within his teams.

The Power of Technology: Living abroad has been made easier with technology. From Google Translate to FaceTime, Patrick shared how these tools have helped him navigate daily life and stay connected with loved ones back home.

The Importance of Perseverance: Patrick shared his experience of being out of contract and looking for new opportunities. His story is a reminder that perseverance is key in any field, and that good things come to those who work hard and stay dedicated.

The Financial Side of Football: Patrick opened up about the financial instability that comes with being a professional footballer. He shared how playing in countries with lower costs of living allows him to send money back home and invest for the future.

I'm incredibly grateful to Patrick for sharing his invaluable insights and experiences. Patrick reflected on the privilege of being able to travel to Korea and play football, realising how fortunate he is.

He considers it the best job in the world. He also encouraged players from Australia to take calculated risks and do their research before making a decision to play overseas, knowing that home will always be there for them.

πŸ’± Currency Update from SportsFX

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί The Australian Dollar to the US Dollar has recently experienced a significant drop in value, losing more than 1.50% against the US Dollar overnight. Several factors have contributed to this shift, including strong economic data from the United States and rising treasury yields.

US Consumer Price Index (CPI): In September, the US CPI rate was measured at 3.7% year-on-year (YoY), which exceeded the market's expectation of 3.6% YoY. This means that prices for consumer goods in the US increased at a faster rate than anticipated.

Inflation and Interest Rates: Despite the robust job market, achieving the Federal Reserve's 2% inflation target might take some time. As a result, it's likely that the US central bank will maintain higher interest rates for an extended period. This has an impact on currency values.

Additionally, the decrease in commodity prices has put extra pressure on the Australian Dollar (AUDUSD). This has led to further losses in the AUDUSD exchange rate.

As a result of these economic developments, AUD/USD has fallen from its weekly high of 0.6440 to its current trading level of 0.6320 this morning.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ The GBP also recovered after a slow start to the week, moving up 0.6% to end the week and reaching 1-month highs against the AUD.

In August, the UK GDP met expectations by expanding 0.2% on a monthly basis. However, Manufacturing and Industrial Production both decreased, with declines of 0.8% and 0.7% in the same period.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ πŸ“‰ Down 1% for the week against the USD, sitting at 0.6323 on Friday morning.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ“‰ Down 0.6% for the week against the GBP, sitting at 0.5188 on Friday morning.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί πŸ“‰ Down 0.5% for the week against the EUR, 0.5998 on Friday morning.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ πŸ“Š Even for the week against the NZD, 1.0665 on Friday morning, the lowest we have seen since May 2023.
