Why did I start this Podcast?

The idea behind the Podcast is to provide a behind-the-scenes type conversation on how players, coaches, agents, etc. became Overseas Athletes.

I'll speak to them about how the process started, what and who was involved, the details behind how they moved overseas and the lessons they’ve learned.

Over time I want it to be an educational resource for current and future young athletes who want to chase their dreams on a global stage 🌎️

I'm hoping that these interviews will help them along the way. It will also help guide them around important topics such as; agents, visas, contracts, currency management, banking & finance, nutrition, fitness, recovery, overall health, culture, language barriers and sponsorship, along with many other subjects.

⚽️ πŸŒοΈ Episode 2 - Cameron Watson

I'm thrilled to share with you the latest episode of the Overseas Athlete Podcast, where I had the pleasure of hosting Cam, a professional footballer with a fascinating journey. From Melbourne to Portugal, Holland, and even India, Cam's story is a testament to the power of passion, persistence, and resilience.

πŸ‘€ Here's a sneak peek into our conversation:

The Early Days: Cam's love for football was ignited by his father, a professional player in Scotland. His journey began in Melbourne, leading him to the Victorian Institute of Sport and then the Australian Institute of Sport, a major stepping stone in his career.

The Big Move: Cam's move to Porto, Portugal, was a dream come true. He shares the intriguing story of how he landed this opportunity, the challenges he faced, and how he proved himself on foreign soil.

The Toughest Point: Cam opens up about the hardships of playing in Holland during the winter, far from family and friends. His story is a testament to the power of a strong support system and the will to persevere.

The Return Home: After his time overseas, Cam returned to Melbourne, playing for the Melbourne Knights in the Victorian Premier League. His determination to make it to the A-League and eventually play overseas again is truly inspiring.

The Unexpected Opportunity: Cam's journey took an unexpected turn when he received an offer to play in Bangalore, India. He shares his experiences of living and playing in a culturally different environment.

The Importance of Support: Cam emphasises the value of seeking advice and support when playing professional football overseas. He shares how organisations like the Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) can provide invaluable guidance.

Cam's story is a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows, filled with valuable lessons for aspiring athletes and anyone chasing their dreams. I invite you to tune in to the Overseas Athlete Podcast and join us on this exciting journey.

Currency Update from SportsFX

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί The Australian dollar has continued its slight uptrend against most currencies this week after tentative signs that China's manufacturing activity could be reviving. Even though inflation seems to be under control, which has lowered the chances of further interest rate rises for now, the AUD saw some upward movement.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ πŸ“ˆ Up 1.27% against the USD for the week 0.6484 on Friday morning.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ πŸ“ˆ Up 0.52% against the GBP for the week, and now up for two weeks in a row. 0.5116 on Friday morning.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί πŸ“ˆ Up 0.83% for the week against the EUR, also up for two weeks in a row. 0.5980 on Friday morning.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ πŸ“Š Even, again, 0.25% for the week against the NZD, and mainly sideways movement. 1.0870 on Friday morning.

If you are holding money outside of Australia and looking to move it back, it’s a very strong time. The rates to move funds from EUR, USD & GBP into Australian dollars are around about the highest in 3 Β½ years since the panic around COVID-19 hit.

They have dropped a little in the past two weeks from the peak, although are still at very favourable rates.
